“It doesn’t take much time,” Luke responded.

“It takes a whole lot,” interjected commonwealth attorney George Davis. Contractors shouldn’t have to keep their crews standing around idle while they wait for a building inspector to drive over from Luray to check a stage in construction, Davis maintained.

Sean Kilpatrick told the supervisors that Culpeper County, which has an excellent building inspection program, is reportedly at the point of needing another half-time person on its staff and may be willing to share a new employee with Rappahannock. With this approach, Rappahannock’s inspector would have the benefits of working with trained, experienced personnel and could be on call daily, Kilpatrick said.

“Do you want me to proceed or not (in seeking a building inspector)?" asked Luke.

“It looks like we have to,” Latham responded.

In setting up an inspection program. Wood suggested that Luke contact the state Department of Housing ana Community Development for help as well as checking with Culpeper County and with Fanning Baumgardner, Rappahannock's county engineer.
