a procedure tor setting up a district. Upon receiving the first application. the supervisors must appoint a nine-member committee composed of four active farmers, four other free holders and a representative from the supervisors.
During the first 30-day period following submission of the application, the planning commission must publish a notice stating that an ag district proposal has been filed; that the application is open to inspection in the clerk's office and that modification proposals must be sub uitted within 30 days of the original filing date.
At the close of the first 30day period, the planning commission refers the application and any proposed modifications to the advisory committee.
The committee then determines if the land in the proposed district is agriculturally significant and looks at the nature of land uses in and adjacent to the proposed district, local development patterns and needs and any other relevant matters before submitting a report back to the planning commission within 30 days.
The planning commission has another 30 days to hold its own public hearing and submit recommendations on the proposed ag district to the supervisors.
Finally, the supervisors must conduct a public hearing and either reject the proposed district, adopt an ordinance authorizing the district as proposed or adopt an ordinance authorizing the district with modifications.
All the steps from submission of the application to final action by the supervisors must be finished jn 180 days.
The district may be set up for no less than four years
