“Then the floods came and we never got any further.” He estimated the cost of upgrading the bridge at $40,000 and noted the money had to come from the county’s secondary road budget, not the special storm emergency funds used to finance the ongoing maintenance projects resulting from recent flood damage.
Thomas Baldwin questioned at length whether all partially destroyed bridges were subject to the same hearing process before being repaired.
Luke explained that he’d planned a community meeting to determine the opinion of his constituents before a possible formal public hearing by the board of supervisors. “I didn’t have to call this meeting,” he noted.
“We didn’t have to come,” Baldwin countered.
Luke stated that he. would write the district engineer to see if an exception could be made on rebuilding the bridge to a 20 ton limit and said he would support a resolution by the supervisors to keep the bridge opened.
