“Don't state statutes make it illegal to close a throueh thoroughfare?” asked someone else.

Askew responded that the highwaydepartment had the power to close any road in an emergency. "It was temporarily closed until we could go through the public hearing process to determine what the public wants,’’ he said, acknowledging that a resolution from the board of supervisors was required if the bridge was to be permanently closed. Askew said il would be winter or even spring before repairs could be completed should the decision be made to reopen the bridge.
