One suit arising out of the county’s failure to provide a building inspector has already been heard in court, Luke reported, while other homeowners are threatening to sue the county if Rappahannock doesn’t comply with the state code.
Supervisor Dick Latham asked if the code covered renovations and additions as well as new dwellings.
“It can cover whatever we want it to,” Luke answered, i, noting that the state wanted complete enforcement. “But we may have some leeway on renovations,” he added.
Luke suggested the county raise the ceiling cost from renovation work that requires a building permit from $500 to $1,000. His proposal met with approval from the other supervisors but no action was taken.
