The letter noted that superintendent William Bloomer has recommended construction of five additional classrooms, a proposal that does not include space needs of support facilities—rest rooms, storage, cafeteria, library, guidance and central office. According to the letter, a final capital outlay report will be submitted to the supervisors after completion of the assessment on curriculum.
In addition, the school board requested that the supervisors provide additional funds to the school account for installation of an underground gasoline storage tank. The supervisors proposed earlier to pay the bill directly themselves. Board chairman Beverly Massie reported that commonwealth attorney Douglas Baumgardner advised “the most prudent approach” would be to pay for the tank with money from the school board account.
“Has the school board looked into finding the funds within its budget for the tank?” asked Latham, specifically mentioning a $7,000 item for outside consultant on space evaluation as a possible source.
If the $7,000 isn’t spent on an expert’s advice, then the money could be used to offset part of the cost of buying and installing a bulk storage tank, Mrs. Massie replied. She pointed out, however, that the school board
