James Fletcher Massie, Jr., said that if a person is wealthy enough to afford a brand new automobile, “then they should be wealthy enough to pay the tax on it. I don’t think it's fair to tax the machinery a farmer needs to make a living,” he added.

Herbert Foster asked if the county’s public schools will have to be expanded and where the money will come from to pay for new construction.
Supervisor Latham answered that the school board’s capital outlay study isn’t completed yet but that it appears more classrooms would be needed. The cost, he said, will have to be added to land taxes.
