"We kept getting tips that he was in Slate Mills and We made several efforts that week to find him. All the deputies went down there at various times,” Buntin reported.
On November 23, in answer to yet another tip on Nicholson's whereabouts, deputies Ray Jackson and Steve Crossman drove to his brother's home at Slate Mills. “They were permitted to look around, went into a closet and there he was—he and his girlfriend sitting in the closet,” Buntin said. But while being searched by Crossman, Nicholson slipped loose and ran again. “His brother Mack blocked the door and gave him an opportunity to get away," Buntin added.
The deputies searched for the now double escapee but with no luck. They came back the next day, this time with a search warrant. Checking a closet, the deputies noticed a trap door that led into the basement. “They found him in the crawl space behind the chimney," Buntin reported.
Jimmy Nicholson is currently in the Fauquier County jail, awaiting a preliminary hearing on December 9. His brother Maclt Nicholson, 29, and Jimmy’s girlfriend Susan Sisson, 23, of Greenbriar, have both been charged with aiding and abetting a fugitive and are out on bond.
Ironically, Nicholson was due for parole in early January and had only two more months to serve.
