Jimmy W ayne Nicholson of Slate Mills was arrested by Rappahannock deputies on November 24, ending a two week chase around the county.
Nicholson, 21, was serving a sentence for forgery and grand larceny on a work release program at road camp six near Fredericksburg. According to the Rappahannock sheriffs department, he was allowed to come home to the county at intervals on weekend passes and had been in Rappahannock the weekend before his escape from the road camp.
On November 14, Nicholson didn’t return to camp at the end of the work day. Late that night, he was a passenger in a car that was stopped by the police in Culpeper and the driver arrested for driving under the influence. According to Rappahannock sheriff W. A. Buntin. Nicholson was told not to drive the vehicle by •officers who suspected that he was likewise under the influence. Nicholson entered the station but while waiting for his companion to take a breath test, walked out and left in the car.
Buntin said he received a call from the state police at 4 a.m. on the morning of the 15th. advising him of Nicholson’s escape and requesting that he immediately check homes of the escapee’s friends and relatives in Slate Mills. With trooper R. A. Baines, the sheriff drove to the area but didn’t find Nicholson.
