The Survivors Association is dedicated more to memory than to good works although the group did donate $31,450 to the Arizona Memorial Fund, part of which was used to pay for a 16 foot by 52 foot painting of the battleship for the new Pearl Harbor Visitors Center.
The survivors of that day meet every year for a convention and every ten years, they gather in Hawaii for a sunrise service at the Punch Bowl Cemetery and sunset ceremonies at the Battleship Arizona. Next week, Pond and his wife Edith will be in Orlando, Florida, for this year’s gathering.
