At Monday’s special meeting, the Rappahannock supervisors gave the school board authority to transfer funds within its budget to pay for the unexpected expense of installing a safety override switch for electrical equipment at the RCHS shop but stopped short of appropriating extra funds for the project. Supervisor chairman E. P. Luke noted that the vocational advisory committee had written the board, requesting supplemental funds for the panic switch, estimated to cost $6,000. He said that the supervisors could supply the additional money but suggested the school board first look for funds in its own budget.
Board chairman Beverly Massie reported that the initial decision was to include the project in the 1981-82 budget. At the request of the . vocational commiittee and the industrial arts teachers, the board agreed at its December 9 session to ask the supervisors for a supplemental appropriation so the safety measure could be installed this year. She . reminded the supervisors that the school board turned unused funds back to the county last June and had agreed to likewise return any unspent money for gasoline from the current budget.
Luke replied that the school board’s current 198081 budget includes $7,000 for the services of an outside consultant to evaluage RCHS space needs as well as a gasoline appropriation based on fuel costs of $1.75 per gallon. Gas costs are now at $1.03, he added. “Maybe
