The Safety-Service Patrol of the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation will travel some 260 miles of the state’s interstate system during peak periods of the Christmas and New Year’s weekends to assist motorists whose vehicles become disabled.

During the Christmas period, the speciallyequipped pickup trucks will operate from 4 p.m. to midnight on Wednesday (December 24), and from 8 a.m. to midnight Sunday (December 28).

On the New Year's weekend, the trucks will operate from 4 p.m. to midnight Wednesday (December 31) and from 8 a.m. to midnight Sunday (January 4), according to C.O. Leigh, the department’s maintenance engineer.
