Local poet Carla Eugster of Woodville will give a reading of selections from her published and unpublished works 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Magic Mountain Theatre on Gay Street in Washington.
Widely published in journals, she is the author of two poetry chapbooks and a forthcoming novel, “Somebody’s Brother”, based upon her experiences as a labor union organizer. She is included in “The Poet Upstairs,” an anthology of poets who reside in or near the greater Washington area. She also directed her own three-act poetic drama at the Goucher College Institute of Contemporary Arts.
Early next year, Mrs. Eugster will participate in the Poets-in-the-Schools of Richmond, a program partially financed by the National Endowment for the Arts to help schools all over the country bring students into direct contact with practicing artists.
Before specializing in poetry. Mrs. Eugster was an educator in diverse settings, teaching literacy classes to the economically disadvantaged in Appalachia, organizing in union halls in the states and England, serving as an educational consultant to government agencies.
