disparity in discipline handed out for drug and alcohol offenses that prompted teachers to question the school board over administration of regulations during the planned senior class trip to Williamsburg.
The board reacted at its March 3 meeting by withdrawing school sanctions for the trip. In the event that chaperones are found and the activity proceeds, civil law. rather than school rules—including the drug and alcohol policy—will apply.
By a split decision with Nancy Reeve and Robert Eastham opposed, the board agreed to give seniors and teacher-chaperones a one-day release from school for the Williamsburg trip and to return personal deposits and money raised by students, actions reportedly cleared with legal counsel:
