“I think we're morally responsible if not legally if we grant approval for release time,” countered Mrs. Reeve.
A first vote on Eastham’s motion for the trip to proceed as a school activity or not at all failed. 3-2, with only Reeve and Eastham’s support.
A second motion to adopt the superintendent's recommendation but omitting specific approval for the trip as a non-school sanctioned event carried 3-2 with Eastham and Reeve opposed.
Laurie Marshall, teacher for the gifted and talented program at the elementary and high school, told the board that the question of enforcement of the drug and alcohol policy was raised by the teacher-chaperones as the result of ‘‘inconsistent decisions on enforcing the drug policy." specifically the board's recent reversal on punishment of one high school student.
