(Continued from rage i) units has been in effect. In the four affected areas • Washington. Flint Hill, Castleton and Amissville - residents must call the Culpeper office to have their calls dispatched. For many residents in these areas of Rappahannock County, the call is long distance.
“We realize that beggars can’t be choosers,” Rappahannock Board of Supervisors Chairman E. P. Luke told his Culpeper counterparts Monday. He asked “in the spirit of cooperation” for a study of the dispatching system, and for an extention of the proposed July I cut-off.
“We do serve Culpeper in parts," he said. “I don’t know how that would work out if it (the distpatching) were cut off.”
Luke admitted “a problem with my authority" in entering as a supervisor the dispute between the private volunteer companies. “But if the whole system falls apart, the finger is going to be pointed at me and you,” he told the Culpeper board.
The Culpeper supervisors scheduled a special meeting Monday to discuss the issue, inviting emergency squadsmen from both counties. However, the Culpeper side was presented along with annual budgetary requests on Thursday by Brandy Station's Troilo and by Culpeper VFD Chief Tom Franklin.
