Teacher Concerns
Chairman Beverly Massie again emphasized that questions over the Williamsburg opting had been initiated by concerns from teachers about the drug and alcohol policy and the extent to which they were expected to carry out that policy. "If it’s a school sponsored function, all school policies will apply,” Mrs. Massie stressed.
Asked for his opinion by the chairman Dougherty, one of several seniors at Tuesday’s meeting, said his primary concern was that the trip not be cancelled. "If it’s not acceptable as a nonschool function, I think we should have the policies in effect,” he - said, acknowledging that parents would probably prefer having the school board’s policies apply.
Mrs. Paul Butler, parent of a senior, added that she would like the trip to proceed as a school sponsored function.
Valerie Jones, another senior parent, objected to the board raising the subject of trouble before-the-fact.
