In a brief meeting March II. the Washington Town Council voted to establish Washington clean-up days the week of April. 5 through 11 and to offer a special trash pick-up to town residents as in previous yeras. On a motion by Dorothy Hawkins, council voted unanimously for clean-up week. Hawkins also had some questions about the condition of the town hall. “When are we going to fix up the town hall?" she asked. "We at least should have a sign there.” Hawkins was also concerned about the hanging light bulb gracing the entrance to the hall. In response to statements by other council members that they'd have to see what they could afford, she said. "I’m sure we could afford more than a 100-watt bulb for a lighting fixture.” Council agreed to looking into replacement of the bulb with a suitable fixture and starting on renovation of the hall as soon as the expense of digging the new town well has been met.
Mayor Newbill Miller outlined to the council the progress so far in purchasing the land designated by the state geologist as being most suitable for a new well. This first-rated piece of land is owned by the Updikes and adjoins the Rush River. The Mayor reported that no agreement had been made so far regarding the sale of that property. Miller said that he would continue to pursue this purchase because it was most desirable not only from the stand point of water
