Students Responsible "At some point, we must decide that our children are growing up and place trust in them and give them the responsibility for their own actions,” said Charles Eldred. "For a trip of this nature. I'm prepared to do so and considering the possible implications of teacher responsibility, I think it might be appropriate to relieve the teachers of some of that responsibility," he said, concluding that the Williamsburg trip should be a non-school sanctioned activity. “Are you recommending that this board change all its policies, suspend all its conduct rules for those children?”, asked Robert Eastham.

"1 don’t think we’re talking about anything quite that dramatic." countered Eldred. “We're not waiving the drug policy, just taking the position that it should be a non-school sanctioned trip." With this approach, he said, parents must make the decision as to whether their child is adult enough to participate.
