Among the thriving vegetables in Barbara Jolly’s Washington garden are rows and rows of colorful flowers. Barbara grows them because she likes them, but she’s also found that there is a booming market for fresh flowers.
Each week she cuts armloads of bachelor’s buttons, cosmos, zinnias, marigolds and nasturtiums and sells them to local restaurants like The Inn and Nature’s Foods in Washington. She also sells basil as well as growing quantities for her own use.
She has been growing and selling flowers for two years, but she’s had a garden almost all of her adult life. The experience she has picked up over nine seasons of gardening shows in the health of her vegetables, flowers and herbs. Barbara is an organic
