she said. ^ By accident, Mrs. Fletcher discovered that okra could be rg planted in a row, then in- t terplanted with cucumbers when about three inches high. “The cucumbers just climb right up the okra,” she said. “Of course, sometimes I help them a little.”
Mattie Ball Fletcher has lived in Rappahannock County all of her life except for a brief interlude when she lived in Richmond with her husband while he was on the State Corporation Commission.
‘‘We always came back here on weekends, though,” she said. She remembers a much slower time here and in Culpeper where she spent a lot of time visiting her grandparents.
