OSHA after learning of the potential safety hazard during discussion of buying a new computer at the earlier board meeting.
On Tuesday, Scruggs could not recall whether Eastham represented himself as a school board member or private citizen when, by telephone, he requested the OSHA investigation.
At the July 14 meeting, Newbill Miller, who had expressed concern over the potential safety hazard presented by ungrounded wiring, asked why the problem was an OSHA matter.
“The safety of employees and children is at stake,” Eastham replied.
Board member Nancy Reeve countered that OSHA was concerned solely with employee safety.
Eastham disagreed, maintaining that he had been told in a meeting with OSHA agents that they were responsible for both employee and student safety.
Reeve asked when Eastham had met with OSHA representatives.
“The last time they were up here,” the Wakefield representative replied.
