Jenkins Hollow is suffering from its annual mini-plague of rattlesnakes.
Cliff Sutherland killed a three to four foot long snake with a mason’s hoe Sunday evening as it slithered across his front lawn. “It was a big thick one, about as thick as an arm, but it didn’t have any rattles on it. It was a velvet tail timber rattler,” he reported.
Then on Monday, Sutherland’s neighbor on the other side of the lane surprised a four foot rattler in his back yard. The snake killed by Robert Jenkins had nine rattles and a button.
The snake measured longer than any rattler Jenkins has slain in the past, he said, but had fewer rattles than the 14 sported by a reptile his brother killed last
