Academic English
“My other concern was academic English,” Reeve continued. “I thought we were going to try to offer it as far down as we could get.”
The board indicated it wanted to institute academic English in eighth, ninth and tenth grades if possible within existing facilities, Massie said, but whether this is possible won’t be known until scheduling is completed for next year.
(Principal Dennis Wingfield reported on Thursday that the administration began scheduling for tenth graders with general and higher English classes. He noted, however, that having to accommodate tenth graders in classes at Piedmont Regional School and the required physical education courses offered only two periods per day was turning the higher English class into general English.)
Later in the meeting. Nelson Lane announced that he will try to arrange a meeting with architect Avery Faulkner for discussion of capital outlay on either July 24 or August 7.
