Make Cut Flowers Last Cut Flowers. . . bring the beauty of the outdoors indoors with arrangements from the flower garden. Here are some suggestions for attractive arrangements: For longer lasting blossoms, the flowers should be gathered early in the morning when they are at their peak of moisture content. The cut stems should be placed immediately in warm water and kept in a cool, shady location for six to eight hours before being used in arrangements. Most flowers should be cut when they are in one-half to three-quarters bloom. Marigolds, zinnias and dahlias should be cut at full bloom.
