Raccoons
Detected
Two additional rabid raccoons were detected in the northern section of Fauquier County within the past two weeks. The latest report involved a raccoon that was killed near Middleburg.
This brings the total rabies outbreak to 15 animals in Fauquier County, of which 11 involved raccoons.
Loudoun County has reported 14 rabid raccoons this summer.
No additional rabid animals have been reported from adjacent counties in the Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District.
Rappahannock and Culpeper counties have each had 2 cases of confirmed rabies in animals since the outbreak began in early May.
