Brooks, whose wife sings with the group, often joins his voi adding a deeper dimension to their renditions.
He has joined Macedonia Church and keeps his seat at the piano when the men’s chorus, women’s trio, senior choir or young adult choir stand up to sing.
“All those groups and just one piano player,” Brooks sighed. “Plus one in Front Royal too. It’s getting to be more than I can handle,” he joked.
"But he was with us first!” Gloria Myers noted quickly, indicating that if Brooks drops any of his duties as accompanist, it won’t be the Voices of Inspiration.
The Voices can outsing or at least match the gospel groups whose music floats out over the airways on Sunday morning but so far they haven’t recorded any of their numbers.
“We’ve been asked a few times but we've never done anything about it,” Helena said. “If we knew somebody who knew somebody in the record business...We just love singing!”
Art Show In
Front Royal
Artists are invited to participate in the 11th annual Festival of the Leaves Landmark Art Show, sponsored by the Warren Heritage Society, Front Royal.
The date of this year’s event is October 10 and 11. In the event of rain the show will be held in the Front Royal Presbyterian Church on Luray Avenue.
The competition will be judged on Saturday, October 10, with a total in excess of $800 in prize money. Purchase awards of $400 are sponsored by the Bank of Virginia, Farmers and Merchants Bank, Peoples Bank, and First Federal Savings and Loan.
In addition to these awards, there will be special awards and merit awards totalling more than $400, donated by Front Royal merchants.
Snow fence will be provided in 8-foot sections or an artist may use his or her own display in an 8-foot space. The entrance fee is $25 for the two day show. Applications may be obtained by calling Mrs. Raymond Guest at 636-2192 or Betsy McIntyre at 6355481.
Chorus Program
The Promise Land Baptist Church Mens Chorus will be in concert at the First Baptist Church in Washington on Saturday, October 3, at 7 p.m. to end the Penny Rally. The public is invited.
