Years ago, four little girls took that Biblical admonition to heart. Instead of playing dolls or cowboys and Indians at their Huntly home, they played church, casting their brother in the role of preacher while they took the part of the choir.
As adults, the four sisters are still making that Joyful noise unto the Lord.
Mary Russell Frye, Kesley and Helena Russell and Lillian Russell Taylor with their cousins Gloria Myers, Gloria Jackson, Dorothy Brooks and Darlene Jett Green are the Voices of Inspiration, a gospel group that has brought joy to the listeners as well as praise to God.
Every first Sunday, they return to Macedonia Baptist Church in Flint Hill, the church that most of the women attended as youngsters. Blended in perfect harmony, their voices soar, glide and dip through gospel favorites, ringing the rafters and lifting the hearts of the congregation.
The sounds they make are good for the soul. It's not necessary to be a Baptist to be touched by their music. The sentiments of Christian faith, love, hope and charity are the same expressed in hymns sung every Sunday in
