But the beauty of the singing comes from more than perfect pitch, dulcet tones and melodious voices. Their personal religious faith and convictions echo from every word of the old hymns. The Voices of Inspiration believe absolutely in what they sing and that belief carries to the ears and hearts of their listeners. The group was formed just five years ago when the young women won a Sunday School talent program. Since then, they have carried their gospel message to audiences all over Virginia and into D.C., Maryland and even as far as Pennsylvania.
Aside from singing at a wedding every now and then, the Voices of Inspiration do only gospel music. They’ve had no special vocal training and seldom get together for practice. “Not near as often as we’d like,” Helena noted.
They see their talents as a gift from God and use their voices for His glory.
Their original accompanist, Gloria Jackson, still a member of the Inspirations, recently gave up her seat at the piano bench to Carl Brooks. “He’s sort of taken over the group,” Lillian Taylor added.
Brooks handles all the bookings for the Voices of Inspiration, scheduling them regularly at church services and special concerts both in and out of the county.
