Effective December 15, Washington attorney David Konick took over the joint position of building official and zoning administrator, a two-day-per-week, $6,000 annual salary job created by the county supervisors earlier this year.
After interviewing prospective candidates at their regular December board meeting, the supervisor formally appointed Konick by majority vote at a special session Monday evening. Supervisors Clarence Baldwin, H. B. Wood and Charles Estes were in favor of Konick’s appointment, supervisors J. R. Latham and Hubert Gilkey opposed.
Konick. 29, earned his undergraduate degree in history from George Washington University in Washington. D. C. and went on to G. W.*s National Law Center, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1977 with a law degree. Konick took time off from his undergraduate studies at G. W. to attend Moscow State University in the U.S.S.R., earning a certificate of proficiency in Russian language and culture.
While in Moscow, he met his wife, the former Julie Roberts, who was also an exchange student at the State University. In 1975, Konick purchased land near Castleton and working weekends while in law school, began building his own home. The couple became full-time residents in the county in 1977 when he graduated from law school and opened a general law practice in Washington, specializing in estate planning and taxation.
