images ot most faraway places described in National Geographic are reflected in pastel drawings that hang from the walls in the'old farm house. Beautiful pastoral scenes of open fields, towering mountains and shimmering lakes, they were aM painted by W. B. Dennis. He’s quick to pooh-pooh his artistic talent. “They’re just practice, homemade. 1 never really had any training, poly a correspondence course - in art that 1 took back when I was a teenager. Moll of the pictures I did, I gave to my children.’’
Whether homemade or practice, the few paintings he kept show that Mr. Dennis had a God given talent with a brush as well as with a harmonica.
And a God given talent with a pen as weH. He has a folder foil of poems he wrote back about the same time he began preaching, poems that became a regular feature in the old Culpeper Star newspaper. If his sermons captured the same emotions and visions caught in his verse, then W. B. Dennis was one heck of a preacher. He brought out the mimeographed sheets of Ms poetry one at a time and only after seeing the response they brought did he modestly acknowledge that a daughter
