Middleton Miller, builder of The Maples in 1850, was the manufacturer of the famous rebel gray cloth. He owned the Glenn Mills, near Warren ton. Before the war, congressmen used to purchase cloth from his mill. The federal army destroyed it
Also unearthed by the Borkowskis in their research was a copy of the Rappahannock News of November 24, 1949.
In this old paper, the now Cardinal Antiques store owned by the Borkowskis is identified as the oldest home in Sperryville and the location of a saloon for years.
