More than one-third of the funds available to assist low income families with their fuel bills this winter has been committed, according to the Virginia Department of Welfare. As of December 3. 1981. $7.8 million has been set aside to assist needy families with fuel deliveries.
The $7.8 million represents 37.3 percent of the state’s total allocation of $20.9 million for direct assistance to families in need. Of the $7.8 million committed to assist applicants seeking help during the first five weeks of the program’s operation. $1.9 million has already been paid-out to cover existing fuel bills.
