Christmas is a time lor decorating the tree, crackling fires, toys wrapped ap in brightly colored packages, gaily colored strings of lights and families gathered together to celebrate the season with fellowship and religious observances.
Unfortunately, Christmas also a a time for fires, many of which can be traced back to Christmas trees and dseoratfams and most of which can be avoided by. fottowing a few simple precautions.
In the ' bustle and bustle of the season, it's easy to forget common sense safety rales as excited youngsters drag out last year’s lights and rush to decorate the family tree. Many fires are caused by danu^ed light strings, overloaded circuits and improper use of decorations.
The National Fire Data Center ' reports approximately 82,000 fires last December which killed or injured more than 3,000 people and destroyed about 8340 million in property.
