Fire Destroys Home
A fire the night of January 1 brought emergency vehicles from six fire companies to Route 622, the Shade Road, at its intersection With Route 621.
According to Sheriff Woodward, the call from the residence of Tommy Starks came in at 6 p.m. the night of New Year’s Day. The fire apparently started in the walls, sparked by a wood stove, Woodward said, Starks’ sister and his elderly mother and father were home at the time but managed to escape from the burning building.
Fire companies from Washington1, Sperryville, Flint Hill and Castleton, assisted by a tanker truck from Salem and utility piece from Amissville carrying extra air supplies, worked together to control the flames. “They had a hard time fighting it,” Woodward said.
