Supervisor Nelson Lane would like to get tougher. He opted for a cash-prize reward to residents who help the county crack down. “It’s illegal; it’s costing us money to clean it up. There should be a stiff penalty,” Lane said.
Lane’s suggestion for a cash reward was not endorsed by supervisors Gilkey or Charles “Pete” Estes, who did not comment on the idea.
One county resident, Craig Wilson of Amissville, thought the reward was a good idea. Wilson asked Sheriff Woodward what residents could do to help; the sheriff explained that anyone who witnessed a violation would need to report it, then show up in court to testify.
