Painting class at CCLC
Painting classes will be held at the Child Care and Learning Center July 13-17 for ages 11-15 and August 10-14 for ages 6-10 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Your child will enjoy creating a series of acrylic paintings on canvas board. Each child wiU choose the theme of his series. The emphasis of the course will be on finding a meaningful image and developing it from different angles, using high-quality materials. There will be daily drawing exercises and a public showing of the final works.
Laurie Marshall will be the instructor. The fee which will include materials is $30. For additional information call CCLC at 675-3237.
ARB to meet
'Hie Architectural Review Board will meet Thursday, July 16, at 8 p.m. in the courthouse. Interested persons are urged to attend.
Wine fest August 1 in Culpeper
The first Heritage Fest Wine Festival and Winery Olympics will be held at Dominion Wine Cellars in Culpeper on Saturday, August 1. Events will include winery tours, tastings, a British Motor Club exhibit, the Orange doggers, a full day of bluegrass and folk music and the Winery Olympics. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Winery Olympics will kick-off at 6 p.m. with local businesses competing in barrel races, waiter’s races, grape stomping and uncorking competitions. Admission will include a souvenir wine glass, tastings, tours, cheese and crackers, all entertainment and the Olympic games. Gate admission will be $5, under 21 admitted free. Drawing class at Middle St.
Middle Street Gallery is offering a drawing class for children ages 5 to 18 on Tuesday and Thursday, July 21 and 23. The class costs $10 and financial assistance is available. Instructors will be Laurie Marshall and other gallery artists. Please register by July 17.
The class is offered in conjunction with the current exhibition of new paintings, photographs and sculptures entitled “Images of Youth.” The show runs through July and the gallery is open Thursday through Sunday, 11 until 7.
4Z’ at Gay St. Theatre
Costa Gavra’s political thriller, Z based on an assassination that rocked Greece in 1963 and was ideologically linked to a coup by a group of right-wing colonels in 1967, will be shown on Thursday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Gay Street Theatre. The assassination of the professor (played by Yves Montand) who had been active in opposing establishment of a U.S. missile base in Greece, led to a nationwide counter-reaction marked by rampant use of the symbol Z meaning “he lives.” The professor’s wife is played by Irene Pappas and Jean-Louis Trintignant plays the magistrate who is appointed to investigate the death. If you like Greece music, Theodorakis’ score will leave you wrung out. Admission is $1.50.
