quickly recovered
One measure people can use to evaluate their contributions to Social Security is how quickly they will recover their investment, said Bruce A. Hundley, Social Security manager in Culpeper.
Retirees today regain their investment of FICA taxes in less than two years, and they may expect to collect benefits for 15 to 20 years. If interest was calculated on the taxes, the recovery' time is still less than five years, Mr. Hundley noted.
