Dr. Young noted that the change to include windows on the west wall will add to the cost in labor and materials, but added, “I think we will be glad we put the windows in.”
The board also agreed that the same committee that selects the books should be responsible for weeding books out of the collection.
Dr. Young said several people have indicated interest in the librarian’s position and that he told them the board will be advertising for a librarian in late spring.
The board agreed to begin work on next year’s budget at its February meeting. Dr. Young noted that they will have to estimate extra expenses that will come from using the larger building, and that they will have to antic, ipate cuts in aid from the state.
They noted that the Fourth of July book sale will again be at the current library this year, because they don’t give up occupancy until July 6. Board member Mary Jamieson suggested that the library should also entice residents and visitors to visit the new library on the Fourth of July holiday and suggested they might use a decorated “jitney” to transport people back and forth.
The board decided to try to get weekly publicity for the library in a “Library Lines” column in the Rappahannock News. This will include information on library programs as well as new books and other materials added to the collection.
