Nationalism, the virus of warfare, must be made to dissolve like the separate identity of the Thirteen Colonies did upon the formation of our government. The United Nations can not do that.
And the President might be warned, too, that although the Saudis now claim to be our friend, those who presume upon Arab hospitality and remain too long within the tent of the sheik wind up being treated to the delights experienced by Lawrence of Arabia, or worse. In a matter of a few months we will likely by fighting the Saudis.
I hope I am right that the prophecies are being mitigated to some degree in that Jesus said that “an evil and adultrous people” would be given but one sign, that of the Prophet Noah — the whale. And insofar as we have shown humanity to that creature, we are likely to show humanity to our fellows.
The judgemnt is after all based on how well we respond as nations to human needs (Matthew 25:32-46). But the money Bush and Reagan spent and are spending on war does not balance favorably with the amount used to help the homeless and others. While we must pay a billion dollars a day “to make fire come down from heaven (the sky) on the earth” in Iraq, the poor in our land have had their heating assistance cut to zero!
Bush must wake up to the fact that he and Saddam, as well as all people, are children of the same God. Both should say “No!” to war!
