The Library Board voted last week to change the library’s evening hours.
In the past the library has been open Tuesday evenings until 9 p.m. Starting this week, the library will instead be open Wednesday evenings during the same hours. The library’s daytime hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will/emain unchanged, as will its Saturday hours of 9 a.m. to noon.
Christine-Smith, who has been working Tuesday evenings, will be taking a class on Tuesdays and has agreed to work Wednesday evenings instead.
The board also voted to write a formal letter to the Friends of the Rappahannock Library thanking them for their help in raising funds for the new library. To date about $513,000 has been raised, including $150,000 frpm the sale of the current library and $141,000 of federal monies distributed by the state for building projects.
The library also will receive money from the sale of a property across the street from the current library that was donated to the Friends organization by the late Mrs. E.M.“Byrd” Jones.
So far about $74,000 has been spent on the building project.
Board Chairman Dr. William Young said, “We still need to raise money. This will come to about $600,000 by the time we get done.”
