• A copper roof for the Byrd Jones House, also owned by The Inn. Like the vinyl siding, copper roofing was prohibited under the old Historic District Ordinance because of an odd construction that differentiated between materials used before and after 1940. That has been eliminated under the revised legislation. Trinity Episcopal Church had applied for a copper roof—and was turned down—under provisions of the old ordinance.
“It’s now our discretion. Before, I thought we couldn’t do it,” said Mrs. Willis. “I think copper will be fine in this town.”
The application was approved 40, with Mr. O’Connell abstaining again.
• A late application by Mrs. Willis for a display window on the leftfront of Rare Finds Antiques on Main Street and a building-mounted sign on the Country Cafe side of the building.
The display window will replace an existing window, and will be larger.
Mr. Matthews said, “I find it makes it look less like a house and more commercial.”
