Despite all the recent snow, spring is just around the comer and the Library’s First Friday Series has the perfect program for everyone out there who can’t wait to get gardening again. On Friday, April 2, the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection will present “Growing Organically: a Gardening Discussion”, featuring members of the Virginia Association for Biological Farmers ‘VABF’. * Speakers for the evening will include local residents Richard and Joyce Abell, who for the last ten years have been raising and selling asparagus, raspberries and lettuce from their Thistle Hill Truck Patch. Mr. Abell is chairman of the Organic Certification Committee Patch. Mr Abell is chairman of the Organic Certification Committee for VABF. He and his wife will be discussing their experiences in raising and marketing produce and should have lots of practical advice for local gardeners.
Also speaking will be John Bums, president of VABF. Mr. Bums raises small fruits, vegetables and goats on his Goat Hill Farm here in the county. His farm is Certified Organic, and Bums is very active on a national and international level in
