Just two years ago, area residents were celebrating the return of the soldiers of Vint Hill Farms Station, whose electronic intelligencegathering in the Persian Gulf made Operation Desert Storm’s swift victory possible. 7m This weekthe area is contemplating life without Vint Hill, a future seemingly assured by the installation's inclusion on the military base closure list released March 12.

.Vint Hill Farms Station, Fauquier County’s largest employer, has a military population of 846, a government civilian work force of L356, 454 independent contractors, and another 1,170 military family members in residence (as of Jan. 30). dc The commissary and other base facilities have provided much needed services for retired military families throughout the area. -Closing Vint Hill Farm Station
