The importance of doing so, however, was noted recently by Irving Kristol, the founder of the neoconservative movement and someone with nearly universal respect within the party.
Kristol said the GOP must embrace within its midst members of the religious movement because “the wave of the future is moving in their direction.” He argued that the movement is helping reawaken the nations’ traditional spirtual values and “if the Republican Party is to survive, it must work at accomodating these people...One way or another in the decades ahead, they will not be denied.”
Indeed, Robertson and some supporters contend they make up at least a fifth, if not more, of Republican core voters in the nation and without them the party wrould be able to pitch only a pup tent.
