With 65 percent of the 8th graders scoring in the top'half on standardized tests compared to 59 percent of the state, Rappahannock students also outpaced any of the surrounding counties on this measure.
However, county students did poorer than Madison and Page counties in the percentage who passed all four physical fitness tests in 6th through 8th grades. With 26 percent passing these tests, county students did better than the state average, Culpeper, Fauquier and Warren counties.
In measures of “Educating Secondary Students” Rappahannock students were below the state average for the percentage of 11th grade students above the median in standardized tests with 58 percent, compared to 61 percent for the state. Of surrounding counties, however, only Fauquier and Madison counties did better than Rappahannock.
With 54 percent of 9th through 12th grade students missing 10 or fewer days of school, Rappahannock was below the state average of 62 percent. With 67 percent meeting this criterion, Madison County did the best in the area. Fauquier and Page counties did better than Rappahannock on this measure but were also below the state average.
Rappahannock measured well on the minority drop-out rate of 3 percent, the same as Madison and below the state rate of 6 percent and all other surrounding counties.
