A Special Place To the Editor: . I love Sperryville. I always have and I always will. My grandparents used to live there and I still go back nearly every weekend. I remember when the Emporium used to be a schoolhouse... when Elmer’s Antiques was part of a Phillips 66 Gas Station that’s now the Napa Auto Parts Store is... and when the Farmers Co-op was an apple packing plant. Although I have no relatives there anymore, Sperryville still feels like home. The gentle flow of the Thornton River, the hills and mountains, the fresh air and awfully friendly folks make it heaven on earth. While there has been some growth there, it’s not to the point where the identity of the town has changed. And hopefully, it will always stay that w7ay. The perfect day in Sperryville is to grab some ice cream sandwiches at the Corner Store, sit by the river, browse at the Flea Market at the Emporium, and then take a long walk alongside the river. This can’t be done anywhere else. Thank goodness there’s no place else like it. The people of Rappahannock County know what a special place Sperryville is and appreciate its beauty. I hope to move there premanently someday. Hopefully, one day soon. JOHN BAKER Silver Spring, Md.
