“We still need some coaches and officials,” he continued. “They must be of high moral character and have the ability to teach young people. The game officials must be certified high school officials.”

Registration dates later this month will be announced. Cost of registration is $50.

The maximum weight for ages 12-14 is 160 pounds, and for age 15, 140 pounds.

McKinley is looking for community support for the Rappahannock team, which will have an initial startup cost of about $6,000 for a 25-person team and an annual upkeep cost of $350. Expenses for field equipment, liability insurance, and game officials run about $2,000 per team for the season.

“Community support is needed to provide funds, goods, time, andr storage space,” said McKinley. “We really need your help. ”

Tennis players of all ages can attend a series of instructional clinics for all levels of play at the County Park in Washington, July 19-August 6.

The clinic is sponsored by the Rappahannock Recreation and Park Facility Authority. The instructor, Hunt Harris, is the senior pro at the Chestnut Forks Tennis Club, Warrenton. He is a Rappahannock County resident and a a former national champion and international competitor professionally.

Instruction is available for begin* ners, intermediates, and advanced players of all ages. The cost is $6 per person for those under 16, and $8 per person for those 16 and older. Beginner and intermediate classes will be limited to 12 players; advanced classes will be limited to 8 players.

The schedule will be determined by the preference of the registrants and Hunt’s availability. Early morning and late afternoon or early evening classes 2-3 times a week are preferred, including a Saturday morning session if necessary.
