Tennis anyone? No? Well, how about football or basketball?
About 40 boys and girls in Rappahannock County will have the opportunity to attend basketball camp, sign up for a football league, and both children and adults can receive instruction in tennis this summer.
A benefit auction for the teen basketball camps will be held starting with a preview of the items at 6:00 p.m. at the Amissville Fire Department on Friday, July 23. Donations of marketable items are still needed.
“This is a great way to clean out those dust collectors from your attic or garage and help kids go to camp,” said coach Gary Leake.
Parents, coaches and players will be glad to come to your home and pick up the items,” he added.
The boys’ camp, sponsored by Converse All-Star, will be held at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond. The coaches hope to send three boys’ teams to VCU: varsity, junior varsity, and freshman.
The girls’ camp will be held at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, and is sponsored by the Lady Dukes Coaching staff. A varsity team and junior varsity team will be sent.
All proceeds from the auction will directly benefit those attending the camp. The auction will be called by Bill Payne, and will conclude with a $1,000 raffle drawing. Refreshments will be served.

You can fill your stomach while helping kids go to basketball camp by buying hot dogs and soda at the Parkway Gift Shop, Sperryville, during the three days of the July Fourth holiday. The food will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. all three days with the proceeds going to assist campers.
Football players can sign up to play in the newly organized Skyline Travel Football League, open to boys and girls 12-15 years old.
The Rappahannock team will compete against teams from Warrenton, southern Fauquier County, and Culpeper.
“Practice will begin about August 1, and the first game will be just after Labor Day,” said founder and league president Robert McKinley. “The schedule is not final, so I can’t tell you who we’ll be playing.”
