Charles Allen Brown pleaded guilty in Circuit Court last week to abduction, rape of a 16-year-old female, and assault on a jail employee' while a prsioner.
The offenses stem from several incidents committed by the 27-year old Sperryville man. In July, 1992, Brown was arrested and incarcerated in the Rappahannock County Jail on charges of rape, sodomy and abduction of a 16-year old. He was also charged with violation of probation stemming from an earlier theft conviction involving a Sperryville gas station. { Brown escaped from the exercise yard in the jail as Deputy Sheriff Wayne Dodson was leaving the yard by striking the deputy from behind and knocking him down.
Brown was rearrested several days later by Maj. Ed Streapy in Sperryville, and was later indicted on charges of escape and assault on a jail officer, in addition to the other offenses.
Since then he has been held in custody without bond waiting trial on all charges.
In lieu of a trial Brown pleaded guilty last week before Judge W Shore Robertson to charges of abduction, rape of a 16-year-old female and felonious assault on a jail employee while a prisoner.
Sentencing is scheduled for October. 21. Under terms of the plea, which was agreecPto by Brown and his attorney T. C. Lea Jr., Commonwealth Attorney Peter H. Luke is asking for a sentence of 27 years to life. The actual senterTPe, however, will be determined by the judge.
